Fresh flowers are traditionally the centrepiece with the bride's bouquet and arrangements in the church or venue, but when it comes to table decorations and confetti there are beautiful ideas using dried or preserved flowers to make sure your wedding ceremony is memorable not only for you and your groom, but also for all the guests sharing the big day.
With more and more churches and wedding venues now banning the use of conventional paper confetti, the only real alternative are freeze dried rose petals and petals of other flowers - they're bio degradeable, can be swept up easily and don't stain clothes. What better start to a marriage than to be showered in natural rose petals.
Natural freeze dried rose petals are made from the largest-headed roses, these beautiful petals are soft, natural, and keep all their curves and colour.
There are loads of uses for freeze dried rose petal confetti and real flower confetti - you can scatter petals on tables, make petal confetti cones, pour into a top hat or add them into your invitation envelopes. These are real rose petals, freeze dried so they retain their size, shape and natural scent and simply look like real rose petals and not the dried, shrunken bits that you may have seen before! Unlike fresh petals, freeze dried rose petals do not go brown or wilt, so they can be purchased months in advance of your wedding day, eliminating last minute worry.
As to the colours available - if you want your rose petals to be the exact same variety as those in your bouquet, then providing you give good notice, it can be done.
As a process, freeze-drying removes all the moisture from the petals, but retains the original size, subtlety of colour shading and natural look. Once they have been taken out of the freeze-drying machine, they have a shelf-life of around 4 months, but to ensure you receive them in the best condition, order them 6 to 8 weeks prior to the event or big day.
When you receive your petals, keep them out of direct sunlight in a dry room and later, if you want them to be a bit softer, then leave them in a steamy bathroom for a day before using them. They will re-absorb some of the moisture from the air and plump back up.
